FIRST ENGLISH LUTHERAN CHURCH CORRECTED MINUTES October 18, 2011 PRESENT: Pastor Herrick, Paula Hughson, Kathleen Eckermann, Doris Plochko, Anne Colgan, Larry Fuller, Candy VonDeak, Suzan Hartnagle, Diane Persico, Ron Bildstein, and Steve Grant Meeting called to order at 7:01PM by President Larry Fuller. Opening devotions by Pastor Herrick using Treasures Old and New to talk about food and hunger. Meeting Agenda was adopted with additions. Minutes of September meeting: MMSP to accept minutes as written OFFICER REPORTS: Pastor: As written;concerning the Bishop’s request for a percentage of funds from the Euclid house sale to be gifted to “Feed the Roots of Leadership.” The Council decided to postpone discussion of this until after the next Synod Council Meeting. St. Joseph’s Hospital has signed a year long extension of the parking lot contract which will include snowplowing. Pastoral Associate: As written President: Larry attended the installation of Rev. Debora Stein at St. Stephen Lutheran Church. Thank you to the committee for their work in putting together the reception for Clergy Appreciation Day. Larry will be attending Learning at the Crossroads this Saturday. Vice-President: No report. Treasurer: As written and presented. There is immediate concern for cash flow. If it doesn’t pick up we will be back to automatic monthly fund withdrawal by the end of October. Secretary: No report MMSP to accept the reports
COMMITTEE REPORTS: Outreach: No report WELCA: Mini-retreat is being held October 21st at St. Michael’s Lutheran. The title is “Jesus of Nazareth.” Raise the Roof: $3,600.00 in donations was received today. A celebration will be held in November. At that time we will state that we have reached our goal of $10,000.00 and then we will state we would like to keep the fund going because of the ago of the building and ongoing repairs are needed. Constitution Committee: Bishop Jerge will have a letter sent to us giving Synod approval for reducing our Council member number to 9 providing that we update our Constitution to the newest model Constitution. Wenz Committee: No report MMSP to accept Committee Reports
UNFINISHED BUSINESS: 1) Sale of house: Proceedings are moving toward a November 10 closing for the house at 1605 Euclid Ave. Still needed are a signed contract and mortgage approval. There will be no occupancy before we have cash in hand. MMSP that the Pastor, Craig J. Herrick, be and he hereby is empowered, authorized, and directed to execute all documents and do all things necessary to effectuate the sale by the Church of the real property and improvements known as 1605 Euclid Avenue, Syracuse, New York,by execution of a Warranty Deed to David Pida or an entity to be formed by Mr. Pida, for the total amount of $100,000.00. MMSP that the Board of Trustees for the Church be and it hereby is empowered, authorized and directed to execute all documents and do all things necessary to carry this resolution into effect. MMSP to remove the chair lift from 1605 Euclid and install it at FEL (sanctuary level to next level). NEW BUSINESS: MMSP (with 2 nays) to move the Christmas Eve Service to 7pm (Special Music) and 7:30pm (Service). Christmas Day Service at 10:30am. Proposal by Janet Whelpley to pursue fundraiser (BINGO) for the Neighborhood Computer Project. After discussion we will tell her she is welcome to have a fundraiser but nothing that involves any type of gambling. The Budget Committee: Pastor Herrick, Paula Hughson, Ron Bildstein, Candy VonDeak, Kathleen Eckermann, and Larry Fuller Nominating Committee: Steve Grant, chair; Susan Salomone The Junior League sends a “Thank you” for FEL’s part in hosting the J. L. workshop on Appropriate Dress for Work. St. Vincent’s invites our attendance for Lessons and Carols.
